Connect Claude Code

Connect Claude Code (the terminal, IDE extensions and the desktop app's Code tab) to CIN MCP. Each user adds the server once and signs in with their own Hyland account.

note

This page is general guidance. Anthropic changes its products often; refer to the official Anthropic documentation for the most up-to-date instructions.

Prerequisites

ItemValue
Claude CodeA current version (claude --version)
Server URLhttps://cin-mcp.ai.app.hyland.com/mcp
Client IDcin-claude-[customerid], from Hyland
Client secretFrom Hyland, sent with the client ID
Callback port8080 (redirect http://localhost:8080/callback)
Hyland accessA Hyland user with a role for your OAuth client's app key, plus a role for each product you'll use (see Subscription & Roles)

Tutorial Overview

  1. (Administrators) Allow the server in Claude Code's managed settings.
  2. Add the server.
  3. Sign in.
  4. Try it.

Part 1: Allow the server (administrators)

If your organization restricts which MCP servers Claude Code may use, add CIN MCP to the allowlist in your Claude Code managed settings:

{
"allowedMcpServers": [
{ "serverUrl": "https://cin-mcp.ai.app.hyland.com/mcp*" }
]
}

Skip this part if your organization doesn't restrict MCP servers.

Part 2: Add the server

In a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http -s user --client-id cin-claude-[customerid] --client-secret --callback-port 8080 hyland-cin-mcp https://cin-mcp.ai.app.hyland.com/mcp
  • Replace cin-claude-[customerid] with your client ID.
  • --client-secret prompts for the secret without showing it. Paste it there and nowhere else.
  • --callback-port 8080 is required. Hyland IAM accepts only http://localhost:8080/callback for Claude Code.
  • -s user makes the server available in every project.

Check the configuration:

claude mcp get hyland-cin-mcp

The output should include:

OAuth: client_id configured, client_secret configured, callback_port 8080

If client_secret isn't listed as configured, remove the server (claude mcp remove hyland-cin-mcp -s user) and add it again.

Part 3: Sign in

From a terminal:

claude mcp login hyland-cin-mcp

Or start claude, run /mcp, choose hyland-cin-mcp and select Authenticate.

Sign in with your Hyland account in the browser. It returns to http://localhost:8080/callback and shows Authentication Successful. The desktop app's Code tab uses the same sign-in.

Part 4: Try it

Start a new Claude Code session and ask:

  • "List the Agent Builder agent types."
  • "List three Content Lake graph databases."

Tools run with your own Hyland permissions.

Best Practices

  • Keep the client secret in a password manager. If it's exposed, contact Hyland support to rotate it.
  • Use -s user so the server works in every project, rather than adding it per project.
  • Non-interactive runs (claude -p) can't sign in; sign in interactively first.

Troubleshooting

What you seeCauseWhat to do
"needs you to sign in again" right after Authentication SuccessfulThe client secret is missing or wrong, so the token exchange failsCheck claude mcp get. Remove and add the server again, pasting the secret carefully.
"needs you to sign in again" after working for a whileThe sign-in expiredPart 3
An IAM error page or "invalid redirect_uri" before the login formClaude Code isn't using localhost:8080Check claude mcp get shows callback_port 8080; add the server again
The browser never returns to Claude CodeSomething else is using port 8080Stop it (Windows: Get-NetTCPConnection -LocalPort 8080 -State Listen; macOS: lsof -i :8080), then Part 3
"has not been assigned any roles for the app…"No role for your OAuth client's app keyAsk your administrator for the role
The server doesn't load or is blocked by policyYour organization's allowlist doesn't include CIN MCPPart 1
/mcp in the desktop Code tab shows only a listThe sign-in dialog exists only in terminal Claude CodeUse a terminal for Part 3

Summary

Add CIN MCP with your client ID, its secret and callback port 8080, sign in from a terminal, and the tools work in every Claude Code surface on that computer.
