Connect Claude
Set up CIN MCP as a managed connector for your organization's Claude desktop app and Claude Cowork users. An administrator adds the connector once, and each user connects with their own Hyland account in the desktop app.
When connecting CIN MCP with your organization's Claude desktop app and Claude Cowork users, also note the following:
- Supported clients are desktop only. Users connect and use CIN MCP in the Claude desktop app (chat and Cowork); claude.ai in a web browser isn't supported. The administrator still adds the connector in the Claude organization settings.
- This page is general guidance. Anthropic changes its products often; refer to the official Anthropic documentation for the most up-to-date instructions.
Prerequisites
- Your Hyland setup is complete (see Subscription and Roles): each user has a role for your OAuth client's app key, plus a role for each product whose tools they'll use.
- A Claude Team or Enterprise plan, and a Claude organization Owner to add the connector.
- The client ID and secret Hyland provided when CIN MCP was deployed for you.
Tutorial Overview
Connecting CIN MCP to Claude includes the following steps:
- Add the organization connector (Owner).
- Connect as a user.
- Test the connector.
The desktop app's chat and Cowork share one connector list per account, so one organization connector covers both. Claude Code keeps its own list; see Connect Claude Code.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Server URL | https://cin-mcp.ai.app.hyland.com/mcp |
| Client ID | cin-claude-[customerid] (from Hyland) |
| Client secret | Sent with the client ID (from Hyland) |
| Redirect URI (already registered) | https://claude.ai/api/mcp/auth_callback |
| Scopes | Requested automatically (see Authentication) |
Part 1: Add the Organization Connector
Only Owners and Primary Owners can add organization connectors (on Enterprise, also custom roles allowed to manage the organization's libraries).
- Go to Organization settings | Connectors (
claude.ai/admin-settings/connectors). - Select Add | Custom | Web.
- Enter a name (for example, Hyland Content Intelligence) and the server URL. Select Continue.
- Under Authentication, choose Sign in now, so each user signs in before first use.
- Under OAuth client, choose Use your own OAuth client and enter the client ID and secret. In some layouts these fields are under Advanced settings.
- Select Add.
OAuth credentials can't be edited after saving. To change the secret, remove the connector and add it again; users can then reconnect.
Part 2: Connect As a User
- In the Claude desktop app, select Customize | Connectors.
- Find the connector marked Custom and select Connect.
- Sign in with your Hyland account in the browser window that opens.
- In a conversation or Cowork task, turn the connector on from the + | Connectors menu.
In Cowork, each tool can be set to Always allow, Needs approval, or Blocked. Read-only tools are marked as such (see Tool Reference for more information).
Part 3: Test the Connector
With the connector on, ask the following:
- "List my Agent Builder agents."
- "Search Content Lake for billing statements from 2024."
- "Summarize the document [name] from Content Lake."
- "Which Knowledge Discovery agents can I use?"
Best Practices
- Approvals. In Cowork, set tools that change or delete data to Needs approval.
- New tools. After CIN MCP adds tools, users may need to disconnect and reconnect to see them.
- Several environments. Add one connector per environment, each with that environment's client ID, and give them clear names.
Summary
An Owner adds CIN MCP once as a custom organization connector with your OAuth client; each user connects and signs in with their own Hyland account; the connector then works in the Claude desktop app's chat and Cowork. If something fails, see Error Reference for troubleshooting tips.
